When visitors leave comments, we collect the data shown in the form, plus the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string (hash) of your email may be sent to Gravatar to check if you use it. After approval, your profile image is public with your comment. See Gravatar/Automattic’s policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/
Media
If you upload images, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF); visitors can download and extract location data from images on the site.
Cookies
- Commenter cookies: If you comment, you may opt in to saving your name/email/website in cookies for convenience (lasts up to 1 year).
- Login cookies: Only for registered authors/admins; store login and display preferences (typically 2 days–1 year).
- Affiliate cookies: We use affiliate links (e.g., Amazon Associates) that may set cookies to track referrals. These do not change your price. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, posts). Embedded content from other sites behaves as if you visited those sites directly and may set cookies or track your interaction.
Who we share your data with
We do not sell personal data. Data may be processed by service providers such as our web host and spam-detection tools to operate and secure the site (e.g., automated anti-spam).
How long we retain your data
- Comments: kept indefinitely to recognize and approve follow-ups automatically.
- Emails: kept up to 12 months for support, unless we’re required to keep them longer.
- Accounts (if any): profile information is stored while the account exists; users can see/edit their info (username cannot be changed). Admins can also see/edit.
What rights you have over your data
You can request an exported file of your personal data we hold and ask us to erase it. This excludes data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
